Toucan Giving is committed to cultivating a community of philanthropists dedicated to amplifying the impact of charitable initiatives worldwide. Their mission is to nurture a culture where giving becomes second nature, empowering individuals to make a tangible difference in the lives of others. Through their innovative platform, they connect donors with a diverse range of charities and causes, equipping them with the tools and resources to support meaningful projects that resonate with their values.

My Role at Toucan Giving

As the former Head of Social and Community at Toucan, my role revolved around building and nurturing an online community of givers. I was responsible for creating social media strategies to engage and educate our users about the charitable causes supported through our platform. This involved managing multiple social media channels, including Instagram, TikTok, and LinkedIn, to share inspiring stories, raise awareness about important issues, and foster meaningful interactions. Additionally, I oversaw customer support via social media, responded to queries, and ensured a positive user experience. Collaborating closely with the UX and growth teams, I contributed to developing partnerships, events, and campaigns to expand our reach and impact. Through my role, I strived to inspire and empower individuals to make a difference in the world through the power of giving.

Toucan on Dragons’ Den

Co-founders Matt Crate and Melody Truong were successful in winning over Dragon Steven Bartlett on the TV show, and I led the team in promoting Toucan’s episode on our social media channels. They had an influx of traffic to our social media channels and our website, along with many messages and comments, so it was my job to be as responsive as possible, answering any questions and providing support for the team well past 12am!

Ensuring we had a backlog of educational and informative content on our social channels before Toucan’s episode aired, as well as ramping up our content publishing scheduled, resulted in a nearly 600% increase in followers across our channels.

Supporting Ukraine

When news broke of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the Toucan team swiftly responded by devising a dedicated donation method, allowing 'Toucaneers' to contribute to our selected Ukrainian humanitarian charities.

With coordinated efforts across social media platforms and strategic collaborations with fellow entrepreneurs featured on Dragons' Den, we successfully raised £13,309.84 for these vital causes.

Working with Influencers

As part of my social media growth strategy for Toucan, I delved into influencer marketing.

With a limited budget at our disposal, I took on the responsibility of researching, communicating with, and negotiating with influencers whom I deemed to align with our brand ethos. I oversaw the entire influencer project, from its inception to completion, implementing our storyboard ideas and ensuring that the influencers' passion for charitable causes resonated with Toucan's overarching mission of making giving fun and flexible for all.
